Film scores

I just need to marvel at the genius and productivity of the best film composers: John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore, James Horner. The four of them have composed the scores for most of my favorite films and of many, many of the top films of the past few decades. They are the giants of modern instrumental music. I wish I could capture and share the joy of personal discovery; I love watching a film I’ve never seen before like The Pelican Brief, noticing the music, learning that it is by James Horner, and then suddenly being able to recognise the similarity in sound to say, A Beautiful Mind. Those same deep orchestral chords topped by wind melodies… music is glorious, and I think as well I like finding such connections and constants. Somehow it feels as though the world makes more sense…
