While I’m procrastinating on this PWR paper, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on two things.  First of all, the Bing Wing of Green Library.  I’m sure I’ve mentioned this many times before but I love the Bing Wing.  I love the afternoon sun hitting the entrance facing the quad, I love the huge domed foyer with its creamy walls and columns and pleasing checkered floor and golden wooden doors, I love the arched windows, the iron chandeliers, the shelves of elegant, respectable books…there’s just nothing not to like.

Second of all, the soundtrack to The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.  So I started just being obsessed with the closing song, “Into the West.”  It is a really great song, and for some reason it really grabs me.  Something about the poignancy of the melody and Annie Lennox’s unadorned, pure vocals, and the very appropriate lyrics really appeals to me.  But I also have the rest of the soundtrack, and I have begun to appreciate it even more after seeing Return of the King for the fourth time on Sunday.  The music really helps make the film what it is, and I think it completely deserved the Oscar it got.  I’m not coherent enough to write the praise I think it deserves, and plus I need to write this PWR paper instead.  But it is very evocative and good.

[Edit: 3:05 AM]
So I have almost 800 words of this 1000-1200 word draft that is due in 8 hours.  I think I will sleep for 6 then try to write another two hundred words.  And I really will have to revise this draft because it isn’t very good, despite me being up late.  But I have been enjoying Bach cello suites, Les Miz (*sigh* so wonderful), The Secret Garden (I forgot how much I love some of the songs from that musical) and Altan (Celtic) music while I work, so the time hasn’t been totally a waste ;-).  It really is all about music.  I should take some sort of music appreciation class.  Or a class about music in film.  Or about art and art history…yay fuzziness. But not papers.  Nasty papers.
