Without love

“yeah, but life isn’t nice like that…”

So they tell me. It makes me thoughtful when I hear other people admit to things they lack in life or when someone is lonely. I guess I just want everyone to be happy. Maybe I idealistically believe that there is justice in the universe, and that all the good people I know deserve to be happy and get what they need. But as I am frequently reminded life isn’t always fair, or nice. Somehow it reminds me of my Xanga post…Indigo Girls lyrics. Or I was listening to “That’s the Way It Is” by Celine Dion today. I think I used to work on a grander plane in my mind… When you’re young you want to invent something, change the world, perhaps. But as we get older the world shrinks for some of us until we see that all we can ever really hope for is to love and be loved. It’s like that song from Moulin Rouge ..”Nature Boy” (originally by Nat King Cole, I believe). I mean maybe I’m wrong, but I certainly don’t think I’m the only one who has held this opinion at one time or another. Who knows maybe I’m just feeling sappy today. But sometimes I wonder how life can mean much of anything without love.
